The Rural Innovation Fund project was comprised of 18 energy efficient low-rent homes, with two homes built in each district. The purpose of the Rural Innovation Fund project was to incorporate innovative technology into housing construction in order to provide energy efficient, environmentally friendly homes at a reasonable cost. The main structure of the homes were constructed of structural insulated panels, and local contractors performed the remainder of the construction and finish work for each home. Each home built thought the Rural Innovation Fund project included three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. Energy efficiency features included heated floors, and the homes were equipped to function on solar panels. This project began in 2013 and was completed in August of 2015.
