Public Notice

The Oglala Lakota Housing Authority (OLHA) issues this PUBLIC NOTICE pursuant to Oglala Sioux Tribe Ordinance 20-63, as amended on September 24, 2024, that the OLHA will be conducting a Special Election of OLHA Board members on January 7, 2025.

Election Date

January 7, 2025, at OLHA designated polling places in each of the 6 Districts in which vacancies exist, from 8am to 8pm MST, which will be at a location to be determined by a public notice issued no later than December 23, 2024. The 6 Districts with vacancies include:

  • Eagle Nest District
  • LaCreek District
  • Medicine Root District
  • Pass Creek District
  • Wakpamni District
  • Wounded Knee District

Number of Available Positions

The Board of Directors shall consist of a 9-member Board made up of enrolled Tribal members who represent each of the 9 political Districts of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. They shall reside in the respective district from which they are elected. Starting on December 1, 2024, the BOC shall serve on staggered terms, which shall be determined by the drawing of lots. After the initial terms, all subsequent terms shall be for four (4) years. The initial terms starting on December 1, 2024 shall be as follows:
Four (4) Board members shall be elected to serve a two (2) year term; and
Five (5) Board members shall be elected to serve a four (4) year term.

Application Process

  1. November 25, 2024, Announcement of Elections: Public Notice of OLHA Board of Director Vacancies.
  2. December 10, 2024, Candidate Application Submission Deadline: Applicants must submit their applications for candidacy in person to Haroldine Jack, OLHA Administrative Coordinator, at OLHA’s main office, 4 SuAnne Center Drive, Pine Ridge SD. Applications must include a letter of interest and a resume that indicates the candidate lives in the political district in which they are running for office, meets the education and experience requirements, and otherwise satisfies the eligibility criteria.
  3. December 17, 2024, Sreening and Applicant Notifications: Applications will be screened to ensure each applicant meets all the predefined eligibility criteria. Candidates may be required to provide additional documentation or clarification. Ineligible candidates will receive an explanation of the reason for disqualification. OLHA will notify candidates of their eligibility.
  4. December 23, 2024, Publication of Qualified Candidates: OLHA will publish a list of qualified candidates.
  5. December 28, 2024, Sample Ballots: OLHA will publicly post sample election ballots.
  6. January 7, 2025, Election: Polls are open from 8am to 8pm MST.
